Software Shout-out: VirtualBox

While VMware is undoubtedly the technology granddaddy of x86 virtualisation, and Parallels was the first well-known way of running Microsoft Windows on Apple MacOS X, VirtualBox is an open-source gem in a world of pay-for software.
I’ve found the VirtualBox support for DOS systems to be much simpler and easier to use (though am struggling getting some of the old Future Crew demos to play sound correctly). Unsurprisingly — given the open-source roots of VirtualBox — Linux works perfectly and integration with Debian “lenny” worked a treat with just a quick “aptitude install”.
Huge thanks to Sun for releasing an open-source edition!
